Will the Met Department report above-normal rainfall for Pakistan's 2026 monsoon season?

Pakistan's monsoon season runs from July to September, and the Pakistan Meteorological Department publishes a national rainfall figure for the season as a percentage above or below the long-term average. The 2026 season has already brought severe flooding, with more than 150 deaths reported by mid-August and the NDMA warning of further nationwide spells. Whether the national total finishes above average is still open. Resolves: 31 October 2026 • Source: Pakistan Meteorological Department seasonal rainfall summary (pmd.gov.pk) Rule: Resolves on the national rainfall departure from normal for the July-to-September 2026 monsoon season as published by the Pakistan Meteorological Department in its seasonal rainfall summary or its September monthly climate summary. A departure of +10 per cent or more resolves "Above normal", a departure of -10 per cent or more below average resolves "Below normal", and anything in between resolves "Near normal". Provincial and district figures, individual station records, and numbers quoted by news outlets without a PMD publication do not count. If PMD has published no national seasonal figure by 31 October 2026, the poll is voided and points are returned.
